Never imagined I will see Blizzard forums discuss how to do it from behind. I only get hits or misses when attacking from behind.

If you stand behind someone and swing your weapon from left or right and are standing close enough what most people do when hitting people in the back there is a good chance you hit the side of your targets shield, before you hit your target. No, not everything. You can expect to be able to parry all melee attacks from humanoid enemies that are no more than x2 your height.

In Bloodborne, the front stab requires timing, a fair amount of health and guts. Father Gascoigne is weak to fire damage, both in human and beast form, and can be parried to open up visceral attacks against him.

Vicar is NOT the easiest boss. Hunters can no longer parry attacks in exchange for the removal of the minimum range for ranged attacks. Parry does not directly generate rage, but it does lower your swing timer which may cause you to instantly attack giving you rage.

Currently, parry haste is being applied to players. Because patchwerk is one of exceptions to not parry-haste. Players can only dodge attacks if they are facing their opponent, however a mob can dodge attacks that are from behind. A successful parry nullifies the attack for the attacker it is like a miss and reduces the swing timer of the defender. It is a passive ability which does not require any action to be used.

Most melee classes get this ability — warriors at level 6, hunters and paladins at level 8, and rogues at level Block reduces a portion of the damage where as parry negates all the damage.

Dodge is considered an attack missing and therefore negating all damage.
